Why calorie food labelling is a nonsense
Why the latest government idea to put calorie counts on food labels in an attempt to curb rising rates of obesity is a nonsense
Study finds Fat children eat better diets than their thinner classmates
But they don't consider that their 'healthy' diet could be the cause!
A
'new' weight loss drug, called alli is all over the newspapers at present. It
is hyped as a wonder drug.
What is alli? The Myalli website says: "alli is the only FDA approved,
over-the-counter weight loss product. The alli program includes alli capsules
and myalliplan, an individually tailored, online action plan to help you lose
weight gradually."
But alli is really xenical (previously known as Orlistat). And the harm it did under that name, will continue under the new name
And it doesn't work — for two reasons:
- It isn't dietary fat that puts weight on, only carbs do that. Dietary fat is actually slimming. So, eat a low-carb, high-fat diet and you will save a small fortune. — alli is not cheap!
- If you want to lose weight using alli, you still have to eat a low-fat diet and exercise, which is probably what you are already doing and, if you're doing that, you don't need alli. If you don't also cut your fat intake, you'll spend a lot of time sitting either on the toilet or in very messy, fatty pants. The fat that alli has stopped your body absorbing has to go somewhere; it leaks out of your nether end!
But those side effects the least of your problems. You could end up like this Swedish alli (xenical) user.
Until people realise that there is only one way to live their lives at a normal weight and in good health — and that way does not include drugs — they will remain a constant source of income for unscrupulous drug pushers, while living an uncomfortable life.
Do calories really count?
Tells why the dogma that weight loss or gain is all about calories is wrong.
Why it's carbs, not fats, that cause weight gain
If you eat too much fat, you'll put weight on, we are told. In fact fats are the least fattening of all foods. It is carbs that are the culprits
Why your low-carb diet should be high-fat, not high protein
Low-carb diets are usually described as high-protein diets. But a high protein diet in which both carbs and fats are cut, is probably the most unhealthy diet of all.
GI Blues
GI diet books are the latest fad as authors search for more 'magic' to see their books. But how useful is GI? This short article tells why the Glycemic Index is not as useful as you might think.
Low-carb Ripoffs
The overweight and obese have always provided a very lucrative and ready market for food companies to exploit with expensive, nutrient-poor, highly-processed, slimming 'foods' and diet products. Now they are cashing in on the 'low-carb' market.
No Joy with Soy
There is an increasing trend of putting soya in everything from bread and breakfast cereals to ice-cream and, of course, low-carb 'diet' products. High in protein, and very abundant and cheap, it looks like a good food to include in other foods. But, while fermented soya is okay, unfermented soya is not. And it is the unfermented soya that is used in these products today. Put bluntly, soya protein powders, soya flour, soya oil and soya milk, and foods containing them, should carry a health warning as cigarettes do. Here's why.
Why a low-carb diet is best for weight loss
If you want to lose body fat, you have to use that fat as a fuel. Your body won't do that unless you give it no choice.
Alcohol and weight loss
How alcohol affects weight loss on a low-carbohydrate diet
Why low-fat, low-calorie diets fail
It is no real secret that low-fat, low-calorie diets cause weight loss only in the short term as weight is invariably regained once the dieter goes back to eating "normally". And there is a very good reason for this.
Begin at the beginning: Correct diet for childbirth and for bringing up young children
We are continually being advised that "prevention is better than cure". Nowehere is that more true than in the battle against overweight and obesity. If they, and the associated conditions are to be prevented, we have to start as we mean to go on.
William Banting
You may think that low-carb diets are a recent American import. In fact they originated in England as long ago as 1863. This is the story of William Banting, who wrote the first low-carb diet book, Letter on Corpulence: addressed to the public.
A Xenical Experience
One woman's horrific experience of the weight loss drug, Xenical. It's much safer to Eat fat if you want to Get Thin!
The low-fat brigade try to defend the indefensible
It is suggested that doctors who do not warn their patients about the supposed dangers of low-carb diets may be sued. The low-fat dictocrats are fighting a rearguard action as their world starts to crumble.
The Correct Diet for Athletic Performance
Athletes are told to eat lots of carbohydrates to increase their performance. It's nonsense, as this paper will demonstrate.
