Is there a scientific consensus about global warming?
One of the main planks on which the 'man-made glogal warming' hypothesis relies is the oft-repeated belief that most, if not all, serious scientists support the concept.
But the facts are very different. Over the last decade, as more and more scientists see that the warmers' computer models do not stack up, they are coming out against the idea that we humans are in any way responsible for any climate change.
Here is a rough idea of the 'fors' and 'againsts'. As can clearly be seen, there are actually very few scientists who back man-made global warming.
FOR Man-made Global Warming
- 52 scientists signed the IPCC’s Statement For Policy Makers
AGAINST Man-made Global Warming
- In 1997 fully 90% of State Climatologists did not agree with the Man-made Global Warming hypothesis
- 19,000 scientists and academics with higher degrees signed the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine Petition, including 2,600 with climate science credentials
- http://climateconference.heartland.org/past-conferences/iccc1/. Accessed March 2008. 100 scientists spoke and 400 more attended the Heartland Institute’s International Conference on Climate Change, New York City. 2-4 arch 2008
- And on 8 January 2009, “More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims”. A US Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works press release, entitled "Global Warming ‘Consensus in Freefall", reported "More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims"
In a report of the Heartland Institute's Conference, Dr Fred Hanson of the Adam Smith Institute wrote:
“. . . leading scientists presented solid, dramatic and verified new material completely refuting the myth that climate change was caused by mankind's production of carbon dioxide.
“The number of scientists attending the conference apparently well exceeded the number involved in the IPCC process.
“I felt touched by 100 scientists with the courage to put their convictions in writing to the United Nations . . .
“The scientists from 17 nations include internationally eminent climatologists – and authors of the scientific report prepared for the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC], including some IPCC Lead Authors.” [1]
Those who still believe the propaganda that there is actually a majority of scientists in agreement with the hyporthsis that global warming is man made, need to understand that the vast majority of scientists aren't!
